In the following you will find selected results of the international online survey. There are also selected results of the german online survey published here. The complete analyzed results will be published in my (German) diploma thesis "Wikis als Wissensmanagement unterstützende Systeme in Unternehmen", which will presumably published in the end of 2006. I will then update this page accordingly.

Please note, that the following collected data is not representative.

More than 120 persons participated in the international online survey. Because the surveys were time-shifted and the German online survey was closed at first, several Germans (27) used the possibility to fill out the international survey, choosing "Other" as country. They are counted here too - in a final analysis they will be removed and transfered into the data from the German survey. The "Other"-Category includes Enterprises using wikis from all over the world, for example France, Netherlands, Croatia, Czech republic, South Korea, China, Switzerland, Finland, ...

The published brief data interpretation on this page is based on 109 valid questionnaires.

Compared to the German online survey, a larger proportion of the participants resides in "small" enterprises.

Wiki-using enterprises in this survey tend to have higher educated employees.

Most enterprises use their wikis enterprise-wide contrary to the results of the German survey (but take in account that the international survey was answered by more small enterprises - see second chart).

Half of the respondents use a wiki more than a year. This result is identical to the German survey results.

The main reason affecting the choice of a wiki clearly is the simplicity of use and implementation. The expense is only a very small factor.

The main problem is the lack of participation of the intended users. Almost half of the participants had to deal with this problem at least temporarily. Thus the encourangement of the employees is an important item to add to the success of the wiki.

Vandalism is a negligible factor in enterprise wiki use.

A quarter of the participants have not identified any problem.
